Sorry!
May 27th, 2008I haven’t wrote anything for a while! Sorry about that. I still believe Papyrus sucks and I have a camera full of photos to proof it. I’ll be posting them on here during the next few days.

I spent my labor day weekend at the Belleview-Biltmore Resort and Spa in Belleair, Florida. It’s a 110 year old historic hotel and is the largest occupied wooden structure in the world.
The hotel looks amazing from afar… but once you actually walk up to it, the place looks like its about to fall apart. I guess you could say it’s historically-beautiful, but I’m a big fan of clean/contemporary/minimal architecture, so I probably won’t be staying there again.
Regardless of my personal taste, the architecture was interesting, food was good, staff was nice, but the fonts they used on their flyers and signs was revolting!
Papyrus was heavily overused on many occasions. Here’s an example:

This is a classic Florida resort, not the Luxor Hotel.
Belleview-Biltmore is supposedly haunted, so of course they used the “Chiller” typeface on many of the spooky-styled signage. How stereotypical, try some creativity Belleview employees!

I hope the guy who runs www.iheartpapyrus.com is joking. That website just backs up my claim!
I live in a city overrun with Papyrusness. In the coming days I’ll take photos of all the BAD uses of Papyrus throughout my geographic area. There are probably many many more examples all over the place so when I find one, I’ll take a photo and post it here.
Oh and if you have examples where you live, post them in the comments.
